Virginie Matz has been painting since she was a child. ‘I started drawing on my father's lap. He was passionate and he passed on to me and taught me the basics of painting. Then I took evening classes and trained at the Pivaut school in Nantes. Then, I started my own business specializing in trompe l'oeil, to create decorations in private homes, in Paris’.

Three years ago, the artist stopped this activity to solely devote herself to the painting of her ‘Demoiselles’. ‘I started this series in 2013, inspired by the atmosphere of Coco Chanel and of the 1930s. The universe is very feminine, characterized by bathers, heart-shaped mouths and bright colours’.
