This Condon Green Site Dumper is the earlier and larger version of the "Matchbox no.2 Dump Truck (1949)" and was developed by Lesney to be part of the "Large Lesney Toys" series. It was made by the model & tool maker Ron Dix who left Lesney in 1952 to create his own company "Condon Products Ltd". Lesney intended to produce the dumper as the third model in their early toy range after the Road Roller and Mixer, but none were made. The model was scaled down in 1953 and released in the Matchbox 1-75 series. The model features an open, cast body with a separate cast tipper attached. All features are cast into the body casting — the grille, headlight, side lights, name plate, bumper, and hatches. The number plate is also cast on the front of the body "CP1949" — I assume this signifies Condon Products 1949, and is the year in which the mold was manufactured. The tipper is also cast metal and is a simple casting, fixed to the body by a crimped nail "hinge". The unpainted underside of the body is marked with "Condon" parallel to the rear axle and "Made in England" in a block of three lines just forward this. The driver is missing.
