Kano Isen'in Naganobu (1775-1828) was a painter, son and pupil of Kano Yosen'in Korenobu, whom he succeeded as seventh-generation head of the Kobikicho branch of the Edo Kano school that had been founded by Kano Naonobu (1607-50). As such he would have had privileged access to study antique Chinese and Japanese paintings in the collections of the Shogunate and feudal lords. Naganobu was granted the title 'hogen' ('Eye of the Law') in 1802, and was subsequently further elevated to the highest 'hoin' ('Seal of the Law') rank in 1816. His works are in museums worldwide, including British museum, Tokyo National museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Honolulu Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, etc. With inscribed kiwame-bako by Wakita Suiseki (1860-1931), and nijubako. Wakita Suiseki was born in Gokurakuji Village, Haguri District in the first year of Man'en era(1860). He firstly studied under Murata Kokoku. Later he joined Yamamoto Baiso and, furthermore, he studied under Mori Kinseki in Osaka. He was said to be the best in the region for his Nanshu paintings. In 1908, he became mayor of Asai Town and participated in town administration for three years. He passed away in 1931 at the age of 71. Roller end: bone.
