Gijs Bakker (1942) is a renowned Dutch jewellery and industrial designer. In 1996, Bakker co-founded ‘chp…?’ , which will cease to exist after 23 years. With this auction the public will have a chance to obtain a piece from a remarkable collection. Gijs Bakker wanted to show the international design world that a piece of jewellery is more than a decorative fashion accessory. For ‘chp…?’, originality of the concept is central to the design and is supported by a fitting choice of material and technology. 
By showing that jewellery design evolves just like any other design discipline, ‘chp…?’ fills an existing void by making designer jewelry more widely accessible. ‘chp…?’ invited internationally acclaimed designers to create special pieces for the collection. All first prototypes ever made of designs for ‘chp…?’ are in the collection of the Design Museum Den Bosch. After 23 years ‘chp…?’ will cease to exist and with this auction the public will have a chance to obtain a piece from a remarkable collection.
