Icona - Madre degli dei di Kazan con oklad - 26 x 31 cm - Legno
The Icon of the Holy Mother of God from the Bachkovo Monastery.
One of the legends about the icon says that it is a copy of the icon drawn by Saint Luke, even when the Virgin was alive on earth. This sacred connection with the first icon of the Holy Virgin makes the influence of the icon on the faithful even stronger. Therefore, to this day, the icon of the Virgin in the Bachkovo Monastery is one of the most revered in Bulgaria.
The image of the icon is of the Eleusis (affection) type. The darkened face of the Virgin speaks of the centuries-old service of the image to the laity and seems to testify to the many legends related to the icon's life.
After the several disappearances and appearances of the icon in the monastery, related to its hiding from the Turkish authorities in the area of Kluvia, one day, a monk from the monastery had a dream that it was time for the icon to find its place in the cathedral church. She was placed exactly according to the dream to the right of the central door, in an iconostasis set apart just for her. This is the place that to this day welcomes every believing Christian praying for salvation and healing.
