The Chartreuse liqueur dates back to 1605, when in a monastery near Paris the monks received as a gift from Henry IV's Marshal a manuscript containing the recipe of an alchemist with a great knowledge of herbs and the ability to process them to create a beneficial remedy.
After years spent trying to interpret the manuscript, the first practical formula for the reproduction of this Elixir of Long Life was drawn up in the early 1700s. Today, this recipe is reproduced exclusively by the Chartreuse monks, who use the ancient manuscript to recreate what is now called the Grand-Chartreuse Herbal Elixir.
The recipe, kept secret, contains 130 herbs that are macerated in quality alcohol and then distilled. It is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years in the evocative cellars of Voiron.
Chartreuse Jaune is the sweeter version of the famous Chartreuse Verte, now available with a higher alcohol content (43° instead of the previous 40°) that enhances its aromatic range.
To be drunk as an after-dinner digestive or over ice. It is also excellent for use in the creation of cocktails.

Le origini del liquore Chartreuse risalgono al 1605, quando in un monastero vicino a Parigi i monaci ricevettero in dono dal maresciallo di Enrico IV un manoscritto contenente la ricetta di un alchimista che aveva una profonda conoscenza delle erbe e sapeva come elaborarle per creare un rimedio benefico.
Dopo anni trascorsi a cercare di interpretare il manoscritto, la prima formula pratica per la riproduzione di questo Elixir di Lunga Vita fu redatta nei primi anni del 1700. Oggi, questa ricetta è riprodotta esclusivamente dai monaci della Chartreuse, che utilizzano l'antico manoscritto per ricreare quello che oggi è chiamato l'Elisir Erboristico della Grand-Chartreuse.
La ricetta, tenuta segreta, contiene 130 erbe che vengono macerate in alcol di qualità e poi distillate. Viene poi invecchiato in botti di rovere per un minimo di tre anni nelle suggestive cantine di Voiron.
La Chartreuse Jaune è la versione più dolce della celebre Chartreuse Verte, ora disponibile con una gradazione alcolica più elevata (43° anziché i precedenti 40°) che ne esalta il ventaglio aromatico.
Da bere come digestivo dopo cena o con ghiaccio. Ottimo anche per la creazione di cocktail.
