Al Moore USA - Keramiek Rouge Fontaine - Baudour Belgium - Rare Tigra cigarette ashtray - iconic design Al Moore (1) - Pop Art - Ceramic
Very rare green ceramic ashtray designed for the Tigra brand in the 1950s, the girl on the ashtray Angelina Saey (1933-1979) was a model from Antwerp of Latvian descent.
She posed as a tiger girl for the famous packaging of the cigarette brand Tigra and also with the black cap for cigarette manufacturer Belga. It was the American pop art artist Al Moore who was hired by the Belgian cigarette manufacturer Vander Elst to immortalize her. In the 1950s/1960s she became a sex symbol.
In 1979, she was murdered, found by her husband, diamond merchant Joseph De Roeck, and their two sons, in their villa in Brasschaat in a large pool of blood and with a noose around her neck.
