The NATO medal is an award from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) which is awarded to people who have made themselves deserving towards NATO, in particular to soldiers and civilians who have worked in the context of a NATO-led military operation, such as a peacekeeping operation. The medal is awarded in various executions, for participation in the various NATO-led (peacekeeping) operations. The bronze medal itself is always the same, but several operations had different colours of stripes on the predominantly blue ribbon. The medal is awarded to those who have participated in a NATO operation for 30 days or more and who have completed their duties well. The medal is also awarded to persons who supported a NATO operation but were not stationed in the mission area itself. In that case, a period of 60 days must have been served or longer.
