Zagato - Zele 1000 Elettrica "NO RESERVE" - 1974

The Zagato Zele is an electric microcar produced between 1974 and 1976. The bodywork is in resin. The car has two seats, and was presented in 1972 at the Turin Motor Show to solve the problems of traffic and pollution in the cities. The oil crisis of 1973 aroused interest, and the “Zele” was produced from 1974. At the beginning, 3,000 units were planned, with branches in England and in the USA through ELCAR. At the end of the production, less than 500 Zele were produced and many of them were not registered. The mechanics is from the FIAT 500 (brakes, suspension...) but with details taken from “supercars”: Dino Ferrari rear lights, Pantera De Tomaso and Miura “push button” lock, Zagato mats and logos. This car is from the first series, number 346, produced in 1974 and recognisable for the dashboard round instruments. It’s a “1000” version, with a speed up to 48 km/h and a range of 80 km. Original orange colour. 24V electrical system with standard 12V batteries. It has been kept in the garage by a local collector since 1988, and has recently been restarted. The car was only driven for 6,500 km since it was new. The documents are regularly registered as a “car” and are ready for the transfer of ownership. It keeps its original black number plates, the first owner was ACI - Automobile Club of Brescia. The full history is available. It’s very rare to find a car like this with documents in order for road circulation! Its brakes have just been restored (cylinders, pipes, pump, etc.) and the car received four new modern batteries, which can be charged with the 220V charger. It runs well. A video of the car running is available. In addition, the ZELE 1000 boasts an important sports record: in 1973 it was the first electric car with a dedicated CSAI Grand Prix, in which these people participated: Stirling Moss (winner), Sandro Munari, Clay Regazzoni, Roy Peterson, Lella Lombardi, James Hunt, Arturo Merzario etc. (see photos). An original copy is supplied with the car. Bidders are welcome to view the car, it’s located in Quarrata, Italy. Please send a message to Catawiki for an appointment. We will take care of the transfer of ownership or of the export documents; low-cost shipping in Italy, Europe and the rest of the world. Follow our NO RESERVE auctions on Catawiki.
