Ancient Chinese Terracotta Female figure "Fat Lady" - 36.5×10.5×6 cm

Figure "Fat Lady"; China, Tang Dynasty, 618-907. Terracotta decorated with cold-applied slip. The Tang dynasty (618-756) constitutes one of the most flourishing periods in the history of Chinese art, this type of sculpture, the endearing «Fat ladies» figures with volume and corpulence, with looser clothing, were a clear reflection of the social role that women occupied in Chinese society. This figure of a court lady, touched with a complex hairstyle and richly dressed in a light turquoise tunic, is a clear example of these figures known as "fat ladies" by the beauty canon of the time, which showed the Courtesans dressed in gala, with slightly round features.
