Victorian sterling silver small openwork bonbon basket. Round bowl with a serpentine edge is ornately pierced all over with a geometric circular design. The body is further decorated with embossed flowers, bows and scrolls in typical Art Nouveau style of the period, and trimmed with a pie-crust fluted border.

Unusually, there are four repoussé depictions of faces / theatre masks, of which two are smiling and two are frowning.

Wonderfully ornate trinket dish that would be a great vide poche on a dressing table, or perhaps be used to serve sweets at teatime.

Maker: Henry Matthews
Assay office: Birmingham
Date: 1897

22.47 g
2 cm tall
9.5 cm diameter

Excellent antique condition. Few tiny dings to base; tiny hole in one spot.
