This elegant Goryeo celadon vase is a classic example of the renowned Korean ceramic tradition. Crafted by the celebrated Korean National Treasure Ji Sun-tak, the vase's smooth, curved form and the subtle incised floral motifs are hallmarks of his mastery. The jade-like glaze is a distinctive characteristic of Goryeo celadon, known for its tranquil beauty and depth. The piece reflects the influence of the Mingei movement, spearheaded by Yanagi Soetsu, which emphasized the importance of traditional crafts. It stands as a bridge between the past and present, bringing the refined techniques of Goryeo celadon, Punch’ong ware, and Joseon white porcelain into contemporary relevance.

Ji Sun-tak (1912-1993) was a Korean ceramist born in Gyeongseong. Influenced by Yanagi Soetsu and the Mingei movement, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing Korean ceramics. His work in restoring the techniques of Goryeo celadon, Punch’ong ware, and Joseon white porcelain earned him the title of "Master of Powder Blue and White Porcelain" and he was designated as an Intangible Cultural Property holder for his craft.
