【Product details】

Presented for auction is an authentic Meiji period or later saya (scabbard) designed for a tanto (dagger). This piece is wrapped in natural cherry bark, providing a unique and traditional aesthetic rarely seen in modern times. The fittings are made of brass, designed to be disassembled, which suggests the piece was intended for regular maintenance and care.

This saya bears the marks of time, showing wear such as scuffs, small scratches, and discoloration. Notably, there is some damage where the sakura bark has peeled away near the handle's fittings, and the peg that secures the dagger handle inside the saya is missing. Please view the provided photos to assess the detailed condition of the item.

We recommend bidding with the intention of maintenance, as the saya will require some restoration to return to its former glory. This piece offers a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of samurai history and craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of Japanese weaponry and historical artifacts.

Overall Length: approx. 35.8 cm

・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid.
・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos. However, due to differences in monitors and device displays, as well as photographic conditions, slight color variations between the photos and the actual product may occur.
