Scarce and rarely complete set of the 12 volumes. Illustrated by full page colour plates, hundreds of engravings and dozens of departmental maps (it appears these 12 volumes are issued with no title pages). Published by E. Flammarion, Éditeur, Paris, 1900. Publishers’ original half leather, with uniform red boards. Spines with five raised bands and gilt decoration to compartments. Gilt lettering to compartments two. All page edges gilt.

A magnificent publication weighing in excess of 18 kg without packaging

Condition
The volumes are beautifully bound, and illustrated. Firm and well-bound volumes. External covers are marked, with some wear to boards’ edges, corners, and to head and tail of spines. Internally the volumes are in very good condition. No names or inscriptions. Some light faded marking to edges of free endpaper pages of some volumes. At some stage an earlier owner has pressed some flowers in between the leaves and there is some offsetting. Light marks on some pages. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. Pages are clean, thick, and healthy. The illustrations are clean and bright (Lovely Set) (Please see pictures).
