Louis Vuitton trunk, France, circa 1920
An antique Louis Vuitton trunk from the end of 1800 in original condition.
The brand Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris, and at that time they started producing simple trunks.
Gradually these were further improved and embellished. In 1888 the famous damier pattern (chessboard pattern) was designed to prevent imitation of the products by Louis Vuitton, which already happened at that time.
In 1896 the most famous pattern was developed, the monogram logo, and initially it was painted on the canvas. After that a woven version and finally the print on canvas. This case has the painted logo.
The inside is lined with a red fabric with red line. In the upper right corner the original brand label and serial number. The serial number is 180617.
On both sides are the original leather handles with Louis Vuitton inscription. Also beneath the handle in white letters J.C., the initials of the first owner.
At the front there are three locks, two steel locks in black at the outer side, and in the middle the famous copper point lock. There is no key present, opening and closing is no problem.
Considering its age, the suitcase is still in very good condition.
Dimensions are: 80 x 51 x 33 cm.
