It's the second limited edition of 1947 of this four handed collection ("Les mains libres" referring to automatic drawing) born of the friendship between Man Ray (1890-1976) and Paul Eluard (1895-1952). The first edition was published in 1937 by the editor Jeanne Bucher. This collection includes a frontispiece, a preface by Paul Eluard, 54 drawings and poems, and then a part dedicated to the Marquis de Sade: two imaginary portraits representative and commented by Eluard. Following a section titled "Portraits" that has six drawings of portraits of friends and relatives of the two men. Finally there is a section called 'Detail', which counts four details of drawings of Man Ray, from the collection itself
