Édouard Marcel SANDOZ is a Swiss animal sculptor, born in Basel on March 21, 1881 and died March 20, 1971 in Lausanne.
He worked mainly in Paris where he settled in 1908.
His very personal style is characterised by the Art Nouveau period in which he is deeply rooted. The predominant theme of animals in his sculptures encouraged him to found the Société Française des Animaliers in 1933.
He also participated in the creation of the Cité des Arts in Paris.
Thanks to his talent and his merits he was elected member of the French Academy of fine arts, and decorated with the rank of Commander in the order of the Legion of honour and of Arts and letters.
