Artist description: Hendrik (Henk) van Leeuwen van Oudewater born on 22 January 1890 in Ter Aar and passed away on 23 August 1972 in Voorburg. Henk van Leeuwen studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and at the Académie Colarossi and the École Julian in Paris. He got advise from J.J. van Jole, Willem de Zwart, Jongkind, Toorop, Konijnenburg and others. He painted, made watercolours, etched, drew and lithographed. Van Leeuwen worked in Oudewater until 1915, The Hague until 1938 and after that in Voorburg. He made many study trips abroad, to amongst others, France, Italy and Spain. He was a member of the Haagse Kunstkring and the Pulchri Studio in The Hague.
