Text below is from the Polyte site, translated from Spanish using Google. In 1943 in Savoy, a small town in France, Lucien Burquier was born, nowadays known as Polyte Solet.  From around Albertville he presented himself in Europe and America as a great artist. His passion for sailing made him build his own sailing boat to navigate the oceans.  Polyte knows wood construction techniques and uses these skills to created sculptures from laminated wood. Marine designs flood his head and his formidable artistic career begins. Polyte Solet sails the southern seas with his yacht, where love invites him to stay in Chile. In the eighties he began using the hardwood of Chilean forests, always with great respect for the ecosystems. He permanently lives in Cauquenes (Chile), where he has his studio. Polyte Solet tools the wood which shows his great conceptual skill.  He focuses on natural figures, such as penguins, foxes, ducks, dolphins, sharks, whales and others. The core concept of the artist's works focuses on creating sculptures with the perfection of the shapes nature provides us, applying these in daily life, by integrating them in a functional way. The hydrodynamics of sea mammals is fully utilised in his sculptures, that are included everywhere, providing warmth and a pleasant atmosphere. Laminated wood tooled with special high-quality materials create an industrial finish and guarantee its durability against the worst types of weather. The wood varieties used in his works include: radiata pine, lingue, coihue and hazel. Born in 1943 near Albertville, Savoie-France, Mr. Solet was fascinated by wood.  He found his inspiration during his travels around the world on board a hand crafted wooden sail boat he designed and built.  The hull was constructed with slats of wood layered together-a unique method that gives added strength and durability to the craft.  In 1986 during a landing in southern Chile, Mr. Solet fell in love with the country's beauty and abundance of wildlife seen along the coast.  Experimenting with a local hardwood called 'lingue' he began sculpting using the same wood slating process he learned from his boat building.  He sculpted the wildlife he loved, crafting them with the same personality and attitudes that had charmed him.  Mr Solet is fast becoming internationally known for these unique, whimsical wooden sculptures.  Not only does his art possess an aesthetic beauty, it's also a reminder of the inherent beauty and charm found in the wild.
