Le Petit Prince was published for the first time in English by Reynal & Hitchcock in New York on 6 April 1943. The first French edition was published the same year by Reynal & Hitchcock, and then "re-released" after the end of World War II in 1946 by Editions Gallimard. Since Saint-Exupéry often drew a small character, Curtice Hitchcock, his American publisher, asked him to write a tale for children. The writer decided to illustrate his story himself: this was The Little Prince. Shipped with insurance by Chronopost or similar depending on the country.
