Anthropomorphic Amulet
CULTURE: Middle East
PERIOD: 3rd - 2nd millennium B.C.
MATERIAL: Stone
DIMENSIONS: 2,8 cm high
PROVENANCE:
- Private collection, J. Roudillon, Paris, France. 1960.
CONSERVATION: Intact.
DESCRIPTION:
Anthropomorphic amulet carved in stone, dated to the Bronze Age, with a trimmed profile and highly synthesized anatomy. It represents a character with a small head, without a differentiated neck, with broad shoulders, arms extended to the sides of the body, high and narrow waist, wide hips and short, straight and somewhat separated legs. The cuts that differentiate the arms and legs are deep and straight, in accordance with the general geometrization of the anatomical design. The hands and feet are not represented, nor are the facial features, details that could have been painted in origin. The front of the amulet is flat, but on the back a vertical projection has been carved in relief to allow the biconical hole to be drilled for the suspension of the piece.
