The Medal for Military Virtues was established on December 29, 1951. It was awarded to soldiers and officers for special excellence in the knowledge and performance of military duties, as well as for exemplary military behavior. Since 1963, instead of five, it has been made with six flares in the coat of arms of the FNRJ and SFRY. A total of 115,589 pieces were awarded.

Military Merit Medal. White metal. Yugoslavia. Obverse: in the center there are crossed rifles and the Soviet flag framed by laurel wreaths. The inscription in a circle in Croatian: “MEDALJA ZA VOJNE ZASLUGE” (Medal for Military Merit). Reverse: similar, inscription in a circle in Serbian “MEDIA FOR WAR OF MERIT”. Established in 1951 to reward military merit and canceled in 1991.
