This exquisite piece is a testament to the exceptional skill and artistry of Ken Shomura, a master craftsman from Arita, Saga Prefecture, born in 1949. Known for his unique glazes, which are meticulously concocted from earthy materials, Shomura's works are celebrated for their indigo and crimson dyeing techniques that radiate softness and warmth. In 2017, he was honored with the title of "Modern Master Craftsman" by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, and has had the prestigious privilege of his works being featured in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum's exhibition tracking the legacy of the Arita Banko Kiln from the Meiji era to the present Heisei era. His longstanding contributions to the craft were further acknowledged in 2019 when he received the Yellow Ribbon Medal.

The Smithsonian Institution's Sackler National Museum in Washington, D.C., was graced with a donation of his work in 1995. In 2000, his ceramics were displayed at the "Saga Prefectural Ceramics Exhibition" in the British Museum in England, and in 2004, his work was showcased at the "German Arita Ceramics Exhibition" in Meissen, Berlin, and Düsseldorf, Germany.
