Hafez - Divan - 1708

A fine Diwan bi-folio from the most famous Sufi poet Hafez, dated AH120, which translates to 1708/9. Both leafs (same sized) are in good condition with little sign of damage or wear. The left folio contains two headings with decorative end pieces, one in blue (top) and one in red (bottom) of the leaf. The leaf is divided by a central column into two columns of script left and right of the page. The script is fine nasta'liq in black ink,. The script is divided by gold cloud, with the whole encased in an inner gold frame and a single blue outer frame line. The right folio has a single blue header with 5 lines of script above and 5 below. Khwāje Shams-od-Dīn Moḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī (b.1315(?) - 1390) known by his pen name Hafez or Hafiz, was a Persian lyric poet whose collected works are regarded by many Iranians as one of the highest pinnacles of Persian literature and whose work has influenced post-14th century Persian writing more than any other Persian author. Twenty years after his death, a tomb, the Hafezieh, was erected to honor Hafez in the Musalla Gardens in Shiraz. The current mausoleum was designed by André Godard, a French archeologist and architect, in the late 1930s, and the tomb is raised up on a dais amidst rose gardens, water channels, and orange trees. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
