2022 Palácio da Brejoeira Alvarinho White 4 x 0.75L
DESCRIPTION
A Neoclassical style building, still with Baroque influence, it was built at the beginning of the 19th century, by Luís Pereira Velho de Moscoso, Nobleman of the Royal House and Knight of the Order of Christ, among other honorable functions within the Monçanense community. He ordered the construction of the Palácio da Brejoeira, on an old family farm called Quinta do Vale da Rosa.
Brejo means scrubland or marshy land. It is believed that part of the Brejoeira property was formed by wetlands and the people who tended to make things easier ended up calling Brejoeira to the old Quinta do Vale da Rosa.
In 1937 the Palace was acquired by Commander Francisco de Oliveira Paes to offer it to his daughter Maria Hermínia Silva d'Oliveira Paes, born in 1918. It was she who restructured the property and proceeded with the planting and marketing of the prestigious wine from the Alvarinho variety, “PALÁCIO DA BREJOEIRA”.
Brejoeira has always produced wine, although without the importance it assumed after 1976, when the “PALÁCIO DA BREJOEIRA” brand was launched. Before the installation of the Alvarinho vineyard, the wine was intended for family consumption or sold in bulk to small grocery stores, with the varieties Bracelho, Pedral and Negrão (Vinhão).
In 1964, Mrs. Dona Maria Hermínia d'Oliveira Paes sought out Engineer João Simões de Vasconcelos, with whom she took advice, starting that year, with his advice in winemaking, the planting of the first hectares of Alvarinho wine. by Agricultural Engineer Amândio Galhano, in oenology. In 1974, Mrs. Dona Maria Hermínia d'Oliveira Paes built a wine cellar with all the necessary conditions for the production of Alvarinho wine and two years later, in 1976, her dream was realized: the “PALÁCIO DA BREJOEIRA” Alvarinho was launched. , bottled at origin. Maria Hermínia d’ Oliveira Paes lived in the private area of the Palace until the date of her death, which occurred on December 30, 2015.
