Nördlingen Ries is a meteorite crater located in Bavaria, Germany. It is 24 kilometers in diameter and the age is estimated to be about 15 million years old. The crater is exposed at the surface. The Nördlingen Ries impact site is among the best studied in the world. It is suspected that the impact body was an achondrite body. In this event moldavites were created. They flew from the impact site to the East up to Czech Republic. Recent computer modeling of the impact event indicates that the impactor probably had diameters of about 1,5 kilometers before reaching the Earth.
