Hanns Welling designed "engobe" style wall plate and vase. Engobe items have the matte black/brown background, an incised outline, and then the enamel painting. Wall plate 752, made by Ruscha Keramik. 3.5 x 27 x 14 cm, 500 grams. Marks on the back of the early Ruscha items often include the initials of the artist who did that plate, but no records have come to light to identify the various artists. Vase 279 made by Arno Kiechle. 11.5 x 9 cm, 140 grams. Kiechle vases have been marked with a typically hand-engraved text. A stylised rose as a reference to Rosenheim, the place where he started his First ceramics workshop together with his brother in 1923, followed by a mark of the decorator and a shape number. Kiechle vases with a black matt substrate are among the most splendid of their kind both in their designs and in their completion and are hard to find.
