This volume is an account of Stanley's travels in Central Africa, with linked extracts from his works. It starts in 1871 with a short review of his search for Dr Livingstone, followed by the 1874 expedition to trace the course of the Congo, and concludes with the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition of 1886 -1889. Original brown boards with gilt lettering on front board and to spine. Finely crafted, bearing a portrait of Stanley in tooled gold leaf, which is also depicted on the spine. Book Dimensions: 19 x 13 cm and Number of Pages: 433 + 6 pages of publisher’s works Contents include the following: Stanley's Introduction, In Ashantee, Off to the Dark Continent, Stanley and King Mtesa, From Lake Victoria to Tanganika. Navigating Lake Tanganika, The Great Mysterious Rive, A Year's Work, The State-Maker, To Stanley Falls and Back, Successes, Old Work and New, The Congo Again, The Story of the Rear-Guard, Difficulties and Triumphs, Jephson's Story, Emin and Stanley, The March to the Coast. Condition Firm and well bound book. Light wear to boards’ corners and minor rubbing to head and foot of spine. Internally; the book in very good condition. A name on front free endpaper page. Foxing spots to free end paper pages, and occasionally to some other pages. All plates are present. The contents are tight, bright and clean (Please see pictures).
