Ming Dynasty Pottery Zodiac Figure - Rooster Circa 14th-17th century AD This mesmerizing rooster figure is hollow moulded, elegantly poised in a standing position, emerging from an oval base. The bird exhibits alternating layers of green and yellow glaze adorning its flaring tail and backside, complemented by green-glazed legs. Facing forward, the rooster features a short beak, bulging eyes, a prominently highlighted red comb, and distinctly marked plumage on its body. Notably, the wings are meticulously painted with black pigment. The Chinese zodiac, deeply ingrained in Chinese culture and astrology, is a twelve-year cyclical system where each year is associated with a specific animal. This ancient tradition, rooted in a combination of astronomical observations and Chinese mythology, plays a significant role in shaping beliefs and influencing various aspects of life. The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, often referred to as the "Shengxiao," are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
