5 fantastic well preserved premier cru bottles from the past.
Since 1604, the Lequin family has been producing wine in Santenay (Cote d'Or). The vineyards cover seven hectares and are spread across Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard, Corton, and Nuits-Saint-Georges, areas known for their exceptional wines. It's a close-knit family business where the next generation is being groomed to take over. Vineyards where knowledge is passed down from father to son and where they work as trustees. "Vigneron de Père en Fils depuis 1604."
Louis Lequin cultivates two grape varieties: Pinot Noir for red wine and Chardonnay for white wine. Over 90 percent of Louis Lequin's vineyards are used to produce Santenay.
Louis Lequin represents pure craftsmanship. The Pinot Noir vines are pruned using the 'Cordon de Royat' method, limiting yield but improving air circulation for the plant and giving the grapes more sun exposure. The result is greater ripeness, more color, and more flavor. Grapes are handpicked. Grass is planted between the vine rows to retain soil and nutrients, while also aiding maneuverability. Lequin's viticulture is labor-intensive, as evidenced by hoeing between the vines to aerate the soil and encourage deeper root penetration, contributing to the wine's terroir.
