José I, King of Portugal, under the auspices of his Prime Minister, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal, the importance of this chartered Company was reflected by the valuable services to the community, being the most relevant, the demarcation of the Douro region – the oldest wine appellation in the world. Since 1960, Real Companhia Velha has been run by the Silva Reis family, who have dedicated their efforts to the production of both Port and Douro wines, focusing on the study and development of the Douro terroir. The Company owns 5 quintas in the Douro valley – Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta de Cidrô, Quinta dos Aciprestes, Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta do Síbio – with a total vineyard surface of 557 ha. Once the harvest is concluded, the winter arrives to take the place of the warm and pleasant autumn. In spring Port follows its journey into our cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia where young Ports are left to ageing for many years, gaining in structure and complexity. Deep in the silence of our cellars, Ports rest in noble oak barrels, a product of the hand of skilled coopers that have working with the Company for many generations. Asleep in a unique environment, the barrels and vats for Port are lost in time… 10… 20… 30 years… who cares! … Only the time required for each Port to achieve its exact point of maturation. The cellars’ proximity to the sea, offers the natural climatic conditions that are essential for the ageing process of this sublime nectar, valued for the aged colour and velvety texture on the palate, result of a natural “oxidation” development: the mysterious process of breathing through the pores of the oak. WINEMAKER: Jorge Moreira. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 92 Points, Robert Parker 92 Points, Wine Spectator 18 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 17 Points, Vinum Magazine 16,5++ Points, Jancis Robinson WINE VARIETIES: This Vintage Port is produced is from selected parcels located at our 3 Class A estates: Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta dos Aciprestes and Quinta do Síbio. The centennary old vines of Quinta das Carvalhas are the spine of this great Port, with more than 30 grape varietals in one single parcel - a technique used by our ancestors as a method of spreading production risks - offering immense complexity and originality. From Quinta do Síbio and Quinta dos Aciprestes we look towards the strong character of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. VINIFICATION The grapes are carefully transported to the winery, where they are placed in traditional stone lagares, these which, due to their size and format, allow a perfect contact between the must and the grape skins, offering a soft yet greater extraction. Fermentation is interrupted through the addition of wine brandy leading to a final ageing stage of 2 years in oak vats. TASTING NOTES This vintage shows beautiful and intense violet colour, revealing immense concentration and youth. It unveils a magnificent bouquet of ripe fruit, floral nuances with hints of cistus creating great complexity. A firm and mineral Port, with great balance and elegance presenting its tannins lively yet smooth and a long, lingering finish. SERVING It goes perfectly with Stilton Cheese and Chocolate & Red Berry Tart. Serve at a temperature between 12ºC and 16ºC. Consume in moderation. 2016 Quinta da Devesa Late Bottled Vintage Port 1 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Quinta da Devesa carries a long history. In 1844, the well-known Barão de Forrester, included this property in what was the first map of the Douro Demarcated Region. But the most important history of this property began in the last century, in 1941, when the Fortunato family acquired the property, thus starting a new phase of greater investment in wine production, with a special focus on Port wines. Later on, the Douro DOC still wines also became part of the portflio, which reinforced the presence in the national and international wine market. Quinta da Devesa continues today to be an independent family company, looking forward to the future, with presence in several international markets. The investment made in recent years managed to bring greater recognition from wine lovers and critics. The result of all this is also visible through the huge number of national and international awards achieved to date. WINEMAKER: Luís Rodrigues. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Gold Medal, Berlin Wine Trophy Gold Medal, Asia Wine Trophy 16.5 Points, Vinhos Grandes Escolhas (2015 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Franca (35%), Tinta Roriz (35%), Touriga Nacional (15%), Old Vines (15%).
