ABOUT THE BOOK: After living in the small town of Schwabisch Gmund, Germany for 12 years, Schorr created Forests and Fields. A project to to explore the composition of the environment, its inhabitants, and herself. BLUMEN is the second volume of Forest and Fields. In this work, Schorr decided to look for or build arrangements in the landscapes and domestic and commercial settings of her much investigated town. If people appear in Blumen, they are merely props in an examination of how objects and nature create dialogues within the communities they encompass. Flowers are uprooted so as to become performers in the landscape; signage, plums, chairs and a plaster fawn are some of the shapes of things moved and combined to further detail the daily life of the townspeople of Schwabish Gmund. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Schorr has exhibited her work internationally at prestigious venues that include MOMA, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Krakow; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Kunstwerke, Berlin; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and the Consorcio Salamanca, Spain.
