A bronze figure of a smith 'Pax et Labor' after the model of Emile Picault modeled as a young man with bowed head and with a black hammer in his right hand. Signed on the foot: E. Picault.
On the bottom rim, the sculpture is provided with a plate with the text 'Providentia 1901-1922'.
In that time probably given as business gift by an insurance company called Providentia .
The General Insurance Company "Providentia" is founded in 1897 in Amsterdam. The name refers to the Devine providence and the words: 'Sub tutela divinae Providentiae' ('Under the protection of the divine providence'). In 1902, It has its office on the Keizersgracht 455 – 461.
Abeautiful sculpture that has an unusual size just like most sculptures of Picault that are always quite large and heavy.
