This auction gathers various French artists which belong to a very specific art movement that is on the rise: Outsider Art. At the origins of this art, there were artists misjudged as "naïve" such as Le Douanier Rousseau or Séraphine de Senlis. In the mid-century, Jean Dubuffet coined the word "Art Brut" for describing this art which unfollows the strict guidelines of the Academy. Nowadays, we call it Outsider art to emphasize that these artists are often self-taught and express their own style with no limits but their imagination.
