You are bidding on a very fine 4/4 master violin, labeled Camillus Camilli fecit Mantua 1741. The instrument remains in good condition with small old repaired cracks on top and sides, repairs on scroll, new boxwood set up, new strings and new bridge.
The violin has a straight high grained spruce of the top and one piece back of strongly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. The unique made purfling (after Brescia school?) is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of golden amber color remains in excellent condition. The whole length of the violin is 591 mm and the back 361 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 168 mm; middle bouts: 115 mm; lower bouts: 206 mm.
