During the Tang Dynasty, the Chinese people achieved economic, social and political stability to the point that large settlements were created on the borders protected by the army so as not to roll back what had been conquered.
Males for most of their lives had to serve the state as soldiers, in this time of stability their training continued and eventually became what we know as the Polo Player's Game. At the beginning it was a very aggressive and hard training, but it evolved into leisure and play.
Women acquired rights and freedoms to the point that the wealthiest women could play Polo for the mere fact of enjoyment and leisure.
The difference is that the men had to continue to do it as military training dressed in military fatigues and the women wore leisure clothes with their hair tied back.
Each female player is totally different from the others, with her beautiful clothes usually decorated with flowers and bright colours, her hairstyle is always a delicate up-do with high or side buns.
It is the only time in the history of Ancient China that women acquire so much freedom.
