The Deccan traps, located in western India, are one of the largest volcanic provinces on Earth. There, in several places, geodes were (and are keep getting) found within the basalt flows, when large volumes of rock are removed for the use of various human activities, such as aggregate production for public works, road cuts or well digging.
In some instances, these geodes are filled with late volcanic-hydrothermal zeolite group species. Actually, the Deccan traps became quickly over the 1980's the premier worldwide locality for a number of finely crystallized species: apophyllite, stilbite, heulandite, scolecite, okenite, gyrolite, cavansite, pentagonite and a few others.
Here is an extraordinay specimen from the now urbanized Malad quarry, back then (1990's) located in the suburbs of Mumbai city, displaying a perfect 1.7 x 1.5 cm translucent white apophyllite crystal that grew on a spray of clear green prehnite pseudomorph-perimorph after laumontite!
The main prehnite perimorph is 5.2 cm tall and you can also spot some small gyrolite balls at the base of the specimen.
A fantastic pristine, unrepaired and highly aesthetic specimen from India!
