Neither the seller nor Catawiki are responsible for a new registration of the vehicle. Located in Cuneo - Italy During the second half of the 1950s, Schiranna manufacturer focused on designing and building of motorcycles intended for speed records, particularly popular in that period. The record for 75 cm3 bikes, set in 1955 by Massimo Pasolini on a LinTo Aermacchi Record along Autostrada di Laghi, is still held by the manufacturer from Varese. The first series of “Ala” models - Ala Rossa, Ala Bianca (both 175 cc), Ala Azzurra, Ala Verde (250 cc) - originated from the design project of Chimera. Ala d’Oro (175 and 250 cm³, later also 350 cc) was the top of the range in terms of performance. With few changes in relation to the standard version, this model was used in several racing competitions of the time (including MotoGP) ridden by pilots such as Pasolini, Pagani, Milani and Visenzi. 1960 was an important year in the history of Aermacchi, firstly for the separation from the parent company and then for the subsequent Italian joint venture with one of the world’s legendary brands Harley-Davidson. This collaboration lasted until 1972. Aermacchi Harley-Davidson S.p.A. (with registered office in Milan and production site in Varese) wanted to promote Italian models fitted with small engines in the USA while continuing the production of large displacement vehicles, which had been always the pride of Milwaukee bike maker. All production models had roughly the same general specifications: horizontal four-stroke single-cylinder engine with rods and rocker arms distribution, 4-speed transmission (“Ala Verde” was the exception that can boast the title of first 5-speed production motorcycle), tubular single cradle frame, telescopic front fork and rear swingarm with dual shock absorbers. The exception clearly resided in the various models of scooters, which from the Brezza model were converted to small wheels like Vespa and Lambretta, and in three wheelers that were still in production under the maker’s brand. In the 1960s the manufacturer affirmed its commitment to several regularity and track motorcycle races. Among the most famous pilots debuting with Schiranna we can mention Renzo Pasolini in 1962. The early 1970s were also a fundamental period for Aermacchi motorcycle activities. At the same time, a period of high tension in the European motorcycle market was observed due to the invasion of Japanese motorcycle manufacturers; on the other hand, the deep crisis inside Harley Davidson forced various changes of ownership.
