Eugène Burnand (1850-1921) - La Prière Sacerdotate
In 1902, Eugène Burnand (1850-1921), the famous Swiss painter/illustrator from Moudon (Switzerland) made the world famous 'l'Eucharistie Action de Grâce au Père' - 'The High Priestly Prayer' - 'Het Hogepriesterlijke Gebed' (1900-1918). Burnand made multiple versions of this work. Without a doubt, the lithograph version offered here is the most striking one that he made. This work is on display in the Burnand Museum in Moudon (25 km above Lausanne). Many work by Burnand is on display in museums all around the world and are also included in private collections. The Musée d'Orsay in Paris has almost all his paintings and sketches. Judging by the blind print in this lithograph of the Photographische Gesellschaft in Berlin, this is no.: 39 of ± 100 prints. The imagination of the apostles’ characters give this work additional historical value. Bernand has thus optimally met our need for an almost 'photographic' imagination of the described events from the beginning of the Christian era. Burnand was attracted to the emerging photography. The new classic frame with glass also enhances the historical value of 'l'Eucharistie Action de Grâce au Père' by Eugène Burnand.
