Description 2000 Following one of the best sugar-cane harvests in Venezuelan history, Diplomatico decided to release a single vintage rum from the year 2000. This exceptional rum was distilled in a combination of old copper pot stills and a batch kettle, then aged for 12 years in bourbon and single malt whisky casks before being finished in sherry wood. (These bottles are named "Botucal" instead of Diplomático because they were released on the German market. Discount supermarket chain "Aldi" felt they already owned the rights to the name Diplomático on the German market.) 2001 A bottle of 2001 single-vintage rum from Venezuela's Diplomatico, this exceptional rum was aged for 12 years in bourbon and single malt whisky casks before being finished in sherry wood. Following on from the popular 2000, this has tempting aromas of sweet pastry, baked bananas and cinnamon, along with richer notes of fruit cake, roasted almonds and treacle toffee. 2002 The third release of Diplomatico's single-vintage rum, this comes from the 2002 harvest. Aged for around 12 years in bourbon and single malt whisky casks before being finished in sherry wood, this has tempting aromas of sweet pastry, baked bananas and cinnamon, along with richer notes of fruit cake, roasted almonds and treacle toffee. 2004 A rum of singular depth and complexity, Diplomatico Single Vintage 2004 has spent 12 years aging in ex-bourbon and ex-single malt casks, developing a dark, brooding character with sweet vanilla high notes. A final year finishing in Spanish sherry casks lends an oaky, dried-fruit finish to an already wonderful rum.
