Magisterial Oracle from the Baule ethnic group. It comes in the shape of a box named Gbékré Sé.
The soothsayer would place twigs and a mouse inside of it. By its movements, the mouse moved the twigs, and the soothsayer would then interpret for his client the new arrangement.
The body of the box is decorated with representations of totemic reptiles.
Cephalomorphic lid in a very pronounced and refined Baule style. Crusty light-coloured patina.
