Beautiful and special fragment of a Roman Roof tile (Tegula) with inscription LEG XIIIIG. In full called Legio XIV Gemina. This roof tile originates from, or used in a Castellum (army camp) where the 14th Roman Legion was stationed. The 14th Legion was one of the four Legions that Emperor Claudius used in his invasion of Britain.
Material - baked roof tile
Dating: Roman, 1st-4th century AD.
Origin: European.
Dimensions: 148 x 135 x 35 mm
Condition: very good, with the usual signs of old age.
