Cervantes/ Gustave Dore - Don Quixote - 1865
Don Quichot.
In 1863, Doré copied the most classic novel ever: 'Don Quixote' by Miguel de Cervantes. He visualised the tall and lanky windmill chaser and his short big-bellied servant Sancho Panza in a way they are still pictured today. The backgrounds recall Spain in the most romantic and effective way. And the knotty monster with the big eyes that glances over the wall still scares many readers.
Doré’s work is published by Cassell in the 1860s. The condition of the binding is mediocre, though the book itself looks good. The pages are slightly discoloured, though are without tears or a lot of stains. Provided with many engravings, many page-wide.
It weighs 3,900 grams.
It is 32 x 25 cm.
