This impressive Kolhapuri Saaj necklace is a timeless Marathi tradition. This beautiful necklace was and is very popular among fashion forward brides.
This necklace is made with a thick gold foil, as you can see in the photos. Gold is modelled and then filled with wax. It has become famous all over India because of its lightweight and budget-friendly price inscribed on this product.
The beads of the necklace are mounted on black silk thread, probably restored given its age. It closes and opens with a sliding knot to be used in a different lengths
Bought in India more than thirty years ago
Approximate date, end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.
3 little pendent balls has been missed during time, but rest is in very good condition, nice patina
