The very first soft toy in the form of a Paddington bear was designed in the UK by a woman named Shirley Clarkson. She made it as a Christmas present to her children, Joanna and Jeremy Clarkson (who would go on to become a world-famous automotive journalist). In 1975, the American company Eden Toys acquired a license to manufacture and sell Paddington Bears worldwide. Eden toys stopped selling teddy bears at the end of the 90s. That is why Eden toys bears are of particular interest.
