DESCRIPTION Beautiful shape and colored ceramic vase. Excellent condition Katō Hirohide (加藤裕英 / 7th Generation Katō Kōbei) was born in 1945 in Gifu Prefecture. With his father, the Living National Treasure Takuo Kato, and his grandfather, Takubei Kato, he also aspired to become a ceramist and went on to study at the Kyoto City University of Arts. During his time there, he studied under Yuuzou Kondo and Kyubei Shimizu, graduating in 1968. That same year, he was selected for the first time for the Nitten Exhibition, also winning the top prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition. In 1969, he received the Nitten Exhibition's Special Selection Shiroju Prize, in 1973 the Chunichi International Ceramic Exhibition's Runner-up Grand Prize, in 1974 the same exhibition's Foreign Minister's Prize, and in 1975 the top prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition for the second time. In 1980 and 1981, he won the Japan New Crafts Exhibition Member's Prize, and in 1981, he also received the Nitten Exhibition's Special Selection Prize, continuing to win awards at various exhibitions since his debut in the ceramics world, and holding solo exhibitions, father and son exhibitions, and three-generation exhibitions. Initially, he developed abstract ceramic objects, but gradually moved on to creating pieces with strong fluidity and kiln transformations. In recent years, he has been fascinated by ancient pottery such as pots from primitive times, using the oldest decorative technique known as "cord-marking" in his works to express the strength and vitality of ancient art within innovative contemporary ceramics.
