The front features a meticulously crafted Makie depiction of a man in traditional attire, riding a horse with his coat adorned with radiant mother-of-pearl inlays. The back is elegantly embellished with bamboo stalks, some leaves of which are also highlighted with mother-of-pearl, representing resilience and grace. Originally used to carry seals, Inro evolved during the Edo period to become a portable case for medicines, suspended from the obi sash by a silk cord. The accompanying Netsuke, made from bone, fashioned as a finely woven basket, served as a counterweight to the Inro and prevented it from slipping through the obi. This piece shows signs of its venerable age with some wear, small marks, chipping, and loss of inlay, as well as minor scratches and lacquer wear. For a comprehensive understanding of its condition, please refer to the photographs provided. Dimensions: approx.
