Colmar Wine Fair, "the place to be" for the stars of yesterday and today
Alsace Wine Fair... This is a name that smells of terroir and regional products. And yet, since August 1958, this event has attracted French and foreign music stars to Colmar, such as Neil Young and Indochine. The "FAV" has always been popular with celebrities. A look back in black and white on those who marked the 60s with their presence.
Roger Struss joined the Colmar editorial staff of L'Alsace in January 1959 to create the photo department, but the image was still not very present in the press. Gradually, it is gaining importance. The service is expanded to include reporters and laboratory technicians. "The photojournalists of Roger Struss's generation were key local figures," explains Thierry Gachon, a photographer in Alsace.
A wine fair means stands dedicated to the tasting of regional products, but also an exhibition of tractors, furniture, swimming pools, DIY equipment, etc. In short, a real and popular trade fair with its share of buyers and onlookers. It's hard to imagine that in the middle of this great unpacking, we could find a Ray Charles, Jacques Brel, Iggy Pop, Motörhead or Simple Minds. And yet, since 1958, in Colmar, the Foire aux Vins has been synonymous with stars.
