Furoshiki(風呂敷) is a square-shaped cloth used to wrap, carry, and store things.
It has a long history in Japan and became popular among the general public during the Edo period.
Furoshiki come in various sizes to wrap various objects, both large and small.
This furoshiki has stitching at the four corners to increase its strength.
The stitch pattern is chrysanthemum, and the name of the house, Ichikawa(市川), is sewn on it.
The cloth has been used for many years, and holes and tears have been repaired by patching or sewing.
The more the indigo-dyed cotton fabric is used, the better it tastes.
The indigo color gives us a sense of wabi-sabi.
