17th century portrait of a noble lady, dated 1624 The present portrait has many wonderful details, such as the intricately embroidered deers on her gloves, her shimmering jewels and the opulent fabric peeking out from underneath her black gown. In the 17th century, black garments were considered the epitome of luxury as it was extremely difficult to die fabrics well in black. Hence that these items were very coveted and wealthy sitters liked to be immortalised in them, emphasising their social status and impeccable taste. Our lady additionally shows off with her richly embroidered silk dress, which she elegantly shows to the spectator by lightly lifting her black dress. The whole portrait was conceived to immortalise the importance and wealth of our lady, creating an image which has endured the test of time for more than 350 years and which also serves as a beautiful reminder of life in the 17th century. There is a heraldic crest visible to the upper left and right. The oil on wood, measures ca. 97 by 70 cms. The panel is cradled and ready to hang, inpainting under uv-light.
